Hair Care Tips

Hair extensions can be considered as great investments towards getting the hair of your dreams. You would certainly want your hair extensions to continue serving you and looking great for a long period. To achieve this, it is important to properly care for them. You will be surprised at what a good care routine can do for your hair and how beautiful your hair will look and feel when you care for it properly. Here are some great tips that will help you:

1.Washing

  • It is possible to wash your hair extensions while you are wearing them. However, it may be necessary to first remove the extensions from your head before washing them. All hair types are usually more fragile when they are wet. So, we advise that you should be very mild while washing your extensions. Washing your hair extensions too frequently can cause it to dry. So, you should only wash it when necessary. In order to ensure that your extensions do not tangle over time, it is best to use only sulphate-free shampoo.
  • Massage the shampoo gently into the scalp area of your head and around your hair for a good clean. Also, resist from scrubbing in motions when washing your hair, so that it does not tangle.
  • Wash your hair length towards one direction (from root to tip in a repeated stroke-like motion).
  • Ensure to rinse out all shampoo from your hair extensions to prevent getting a sticky after-wash feel.
2. Conditioning
  • It is very necessary to keep your hair extensions constantly hydrated for a silky and long-lasting results. Applying a good quality conditioner after every wash will help you to maintain the elegance and quality of your hair extensions for a long time. While applying conditioner, focus more on the tips and middle of the hair whilst avoiding the scalp area to prevent a build-up of grease.
  • Thoroughly rinse out all conditioner from the hair after some time in order to achieve a lightweight feel when it dries.
  • If you want an added moisture treatment, especially for coloured hair, you can add a good quality serum to the tips of the hair, either when still wet or when dry.
  • If it is necessary to brush the hair while conditioning, maintain your focus from the middle part of the hair towards the tips. It is highly advised to use tangle teasers for this as they are very gentle to the hair.
3. Products to Use
  • In contrast to our own natural hair which receives sufficient hydration from the natural oil in our scalp, there is no natural source of nourishment for hair extensions. Instead, there are products that are specially made for nourishing hair extensions. We strongly advise that you go for alcohol and sulphate-free products, as they can help to keep your hair looking super soft and silky. On the other hand, products with alcohol and sulphate contents can cause the hair to matte.
  • Natural hair oils like coconut oil, organic Argan oil, Jojoba oil, etc. are also good for the hair tips.
4. Heat Tools
  • If you wish to, you may dry your Real Hair extensions with heat. However, you should know that inadequate heat amounts can damage them. So, we advise that you should use a quality heat protector before applying direct heat to the hair. You should also avoid using heating tools that are over 180°C on your hair extensions.
  • We recommend air drying as the healthiest option for drying your Real Hair extensions. This is because excessive exposure to heat can reduce their life span, especially for coloured hair extensions.
5. Sports

It is okay to wear hair extensions when involving in sporting activities. However:

  • Ensure to dry your hair extensions after all sweaty work-out or sports exercise.
  • Rinse your hair extensions after going for a swim, as the chlorine content in swimming pools can cause drying and damages to the hair. After swimming, we recommend thoroughly washing and conditioning your hair to restore is full lustre and soft silky texture.
6. Sleeping
  • It is strongly advised not to go to bed with wet hair.
  • Wrapping your hair with a silk headscarf will do a lot of good in helping to keep it hydrated and super soft when you wake.
  • It is also a great idea to braid your hair into a couple of big braids before sleeping.
7. Colour
  • You can colour your Real Hair extensions. However, ensure to do it professionally, so that you do not damage the hair cuticle.
  • It is not advisable to recolour your hair after colouring it for the first time, as this might cause it not to last as long as it is supposed to. You should also note that colouring your hair generally can reduce its life span.
